Community Development Fee Schedules

Notice of Fee Adjustments: On Sept. 8, 2026, proposed updates to the Master Fee and Charges Schedule were approved by City Council. The new fees are now posted and took effect Oct. 1, 2026.

The City Council approves biannual, citywide changes to the Long Beach Master Fees and Charges Schedule. The updated schedule contains many changes including increases, decreases and the complete restructuring of some fees.

How much should I expect to pay?
For most construction projects, you could expect to spend about 2% of your building costs on plan checks, permits, inspections and other agency fees.

Development Impact Fees

Development Impact Fees (DIF) are charges that a city collects from new development projects to help pay for the public infrastructure and services needed to support growth. In a large city like Long Beach, these fees ensure that new housing, commercial buildings and other developments contribute their fair share toward essential improvements.

DIF funds can be used to expand or upgrade police and fire facilities, support school capacity needs, enhance accessibility throughout public spaces and improve transportation systems such as roads, bike lanes, and transit infrastructure. By using DIF funds, the City can manage growth responsibly and maintain the quality of services and community facilities as development increases.

Please email devimpactfees@longbeach.gov with any questions.

Assembly Bill (AB) 602 sets clearer standards for how local agencies calculate and disclose development impact fees. Additionally, AB 602 requires cities, counties and special districts to post their full fee schedules, related development standards, prior nexus studies and annual fee reports on their websites. They must also publish actual fee amounts collected from completed building permits. AB 602 aims to ensure impact fees are fair, proportional, evidence-based and publicly accessible, helping smaller housing units pay appropriately scaled fees and giving stakeholders and developers transparent insight into local fee structures.
